An Inside Look at the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade’s Impact – Supporting the Body and the Mind

By: All for the Breast Editorial Team, September 27, 2017

Breast cancer does not just attack the body—it affects a patient’s entire life, their physical and emotional health. Medical treatments like chemotherapy and radiation can lead to a myriad of side effects that also need relief.

The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade funds organizations that focus on what is known as 360-degree support for patients, which works to minimize not just the physical impacts of the disease – but the mental and emotional ones as well. They focus on the whole person through services like acupuncture, support groups and massage, which then allows patients to better manage the impact of the breast cancer treatment.

In the fourth part of our impact video series, we explore how these programs are enabling women to get the care they need, when they need it.

“The purpose of integrative care is to treat the breast cancer patient as an entire person. It is not treatment that is alternative to some other standard treatment, it’s treatment that’s in addition to. It’s treatment that can augment and ease the other treatment that a patient may be receiving.”  – Carolyn Ricci, Program Director, Avon Breast Cancer Crusade
